This Sunday, Dec 4th, I will be challenging myself to do something I have never done before. I will be running the Dallas White Rock Marathon. Much like it takes a village to raise a child, it took a village to help me get where I am now. I just wanted to take this opportunity to openly thank the people who have helped me along the way and hopefully let them know how much they mean to me.
April – I wouldn’t be where I am without your recommendation or your belief that I could actually do this. After talking with you more and more you told me about the Luke’s Locker training program and encouraged me to get involved. Thank you for bringing me into your circle of friends and being a great green group running friend.
Misty – My coach! When I didn’t believe in myself, was lost, had a ton of questions or just needed to run waaay slow, you were there for me, patient as ever with great advice. Always one to make me look back and realize what I’ve accomplished, I wouldn’t be where I am without you. I look forward to continuing our friendship and sharing training for a 70.3 in the spring!
Jeanette – I wouldn’t have survived without you. Seriously. You are my running partner in crime. All of those miles we logged together (bringing up the rear of the green group, ya know, taking one for the team) and countless discussions, support and even the quiet time have meant the world to me. I value your friendship and I hope we log many more miles together.
Green Group at Luke’s – Seriously y’all, we’re about to do this! Thank you for being an amazing group of runners. I may not have looked forward to running some of those long miles, but I never wanted to miss spending time with each of you. I’m going to miss our runs together and I think I may feel a little lost without you after this marathon. We are a drinking group that runs, so I hope to spend more time with all of you running, drinking and just enjoying each other’s company. Thank you for being an amazing group of people. You’ve set the bar impossibly high for any future groups I belong to.
Jill – Thank you for being one of the only people who didn’t call me crazy when I told you what I wanted to do. Your constant support, genuine interest and concern has had quite an impact on me. I loved watching you go through your first half and I know you have the bug – you can’t resist race bling! You are an inspiration to keep going. And yes, I always need more Cowbell!
Patton (Natural Running Store) – You have a passion for people and running like I’ve never seen before, but have been blessed enough to be a part of. You are one of the biggest givers of your time and your knowledge. Thank you for sharing that with me and helping me be a better runner. I have so much still to learn!
Corina, Michelle, Michelle, Gretchen & Amy – I don’t think you know how much your kind and supportive words to a fellow runner (I consider you ladies in my group of frunners…hehe) have meant to me. You have been incredibly welcoming and inclusive and I appreciate your huge hearts. I can’t wait to see you out there on Sunday – either running besides me or cheering me on.
Lisa – I seriously read everything you do everyday in amazement. You are an inspiration to all of us to keep up with our training and to believe in ourselves. You have an amazing story that shows with hard work and perseverance you can accomplish and stick with anything. Thank you for being so kind and positive on a daily basis. I think you believe in me more than I believe in myself – thank you for that.
Beth, Teal, Emily & Ashley – Oh ladies, I’d be lost without you. You constantly keep me laughing but grounded. Your support when I’ve gone off the deep end (and honesty that you’ve been there before) is refreshing and amazing. I can’t wait to cross the finish line and share all of our first marathon glory. Our champagne is going to taste fabulous 🙂
Lauren – I couldn’t ask for a better cheering section. Seriously. You have come out and supported us more than we ever could have asked for. Thank you for not outwardly calling me crazy but standing there and yelling at us to go faster and that we can do it! I look forward to seeing your face on Sunday – and telling me that “I better f*cking have this!”
Jarah – You have been one of our best and most supportive friends here in Dallas. You constantly amaze me with your achievements and accomplishments not to mention raising the most respectful, polite and kind daughter I have ever met. Reading about you achieving your goal and loving it serves as inspiration for me. Thank you for being you.
Brian – Oh honey. Where do I begin? Sometimes I can’t believe you put up with all of this crazy and still lay next to me in bed every night. You are my rock of support and a source of inspiration and love. I couldn’t have done any of this without your support – or acting like my alarm clock and kicking me out of bed every morning. Thank you for believing in me. Every. Single. Day. I love you.
All of you will be in my thoughts as I hit the hard miles. Your faces and anecdotes will keep me motivated and keep one foot going in front of the other. You will all be running with me. Even if your aren’t next to me stride for stride, I will carry all of you in my heart as I try to conquer those 26.2 miles. Thank you for being my village. I love you all.
